In Pain? Tired and Depressed?

You're at the right place for relief that lasts.
Somatics eliminates pain and
makes movement easy.

Since you're searching for pain relief, I'm assuming that, if you've had therapy, you need more relief -- and if you haven't had therapy, you need more information.

You may believe that if the pain is intense or persistent, that your case is especially difficult. Not necessarily.

Some therapeutic approaches can take you farther than others -- quite apart from the proficiency of your practitioners.

Working on muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments -- the standard approach of therapy -- leaves untouched the changes of  brain conditioning that keep muscles so tight that they hurt, restrict movement, compress joints and trap nerves.

You may need another approach to go further.

Clinical Somatic Education

(Hanna Somatic Education®)

Clinical Somatic Education is completely different from nearly all forms of therapy -- Eastern or Western, allopathic or "complementary/alternative".

It goes farther.  It works faster. The relief lasts -- and I guarantee that it will work with a money-back guarantee.

You'll be able to return safely and comfortably to your activities faster than you expect.

For now, let me clarify:

The kind of pain this approach works with is pain associated with movement and position -- usually from injuries, sometimes from stress, alone -- not from cancer, an autoimmune or genetic disorder, or a disease entity. I'll explain in detail.

Your somatic education starts, now.

HOW IS CLINICAL SOMATIC EDUCATION DIFFERENT and WHO CAN BENEFIT?

If you've been getting treatment for pain for a long time and aren't getting better, aren't getting better fast enough, or if different doctors have given different diagnoses and you've "tried everything" without satisfactory improvement; if you fear that you may have to live that way for the rest of your life, clinical somatic education is probably for you.

Clinical somatic education is for people ready to participate actively in their own healing, ready to learn -- who have lost faith in, or patience with, the medical system and are taking matters into their own hands -- and for health care practitioners looking for something more than the standard modalities, to help their patients.

There exists a well-defined process in which you, as a client, actively participate, with tangible, obvious (i.e., blatant), cumulative improvements accumulating at each step, until you're done.

Beach Volleyball

This process involves (1) identifying patterns of ongoing muscular tension directly resulting from injury, (2) deliberately tightening and relaxing those muscles in their injury pattern using a technique called, pandiculation, to recover muscular control, and (3) using patterned action patterns to replace painful tension patterns with pain-free, healthy movement.

Typically, five-to-ten clinical sessions are needed, about once weekly. If you're working with a self-relief (somatic education exercise) program, results come more gradually, but distinctly.

CLINICAL SOMATIC EDUCATION

The term, "education", may imply to you something mental or psychological and slowly-acting.  The reverse is true.

While Clinical Somatic Education involves learning, it's the kind of learning that occurred when you learned to walk, to ride a bicycle, to play a sport -- movement learning -- and along with that, the ability to sense and control movement, position, and muscular tension accurately.

Clinical Somatic Education works far faster than ordinary movement-learning and produces far more complete and lasting results than therapy.

Therapist Manipulating Knee

Therapy generally involves external manipulation of joints and soft tissues (e.g., muscles) by strengthening, stretching, drugs, "energy work", electrical stimulation, ultrasound, or surgery.

That approach is akin to looking for the problem in your computer's hardware, when it's a software problem. The software is your brain's movement memory (commonly mis-named, "muscle memory"), which includes the sensations of movement and position.

It's movement memory that gets altered with injury and long-term stress. Muscles tighten. Joints get compressed. Nerves get pinched. Pain and/or numbness associated with movements and positions results. While it's not "in your head", it is in your brain.

Clinical Somatic Education reverses these effects. More, below.

HOW MOVEMENT MEMORY GETS ALTERED

In the pain of injury, we cringe automatically to pull the injured place out of danger. A memory automatically forms of the injury and of the cringe reaction.

A tension habit develops suddenly and symptoms develop that may persist for decades and commonly do -- or they may emerge years later. Tension habits are "bugs" in your movement and sensing brain-software.

They cause the symptoms.

That's how people's movement changes and chronic pain appears.

HOW MOVEMENT MEMORY GETS CORRECTED

Every one of us does something that makes us feel more comfortable: yawn and stretch.

Clinical Somatic Education has developed yawning into an action that corrects movement memory to relieve pain faster and far longer than stretching.

It relaxes muscles, decompresses joints and trapped nerves, and restores freedom of movement, for relief that lasts. It's called, "pandiculation".  See, below.

RESEARCH, HISTORY and USAGE

For more than a century, researchers into mind-brain-body development have investigated ways to recover from stress and trauma.

F.M. ALEXANDER (movement educator), M. FELDENKRAIS (somatic educator), H. SELYE (stress researcher), A.F. FRAZIER (development researcher), T. HANNA (somatic educator), and others have developed ways to relieve pain and to restore mobility and resiliency to traumatized people.

Using the brain's capacity for learning ("brain plasticity"), the field of somatics has achieved definitive breakthroughs in pain relief, movement rehab, athletic training, and reversing aspects of ageing.

The Basic Difference Between Pain Management and Clinical Somatic Education

Pain Management is a branch of Anaesthesiology. It suppresses pain instead of removing the cause of pain. Instead of suppressing pain, Clinical somatic education removes the cause of pain.

What to Expect

Here's what you should expect from clinical somatic education:

  • to get you into the fast-lane to relief from pain -- relief that lasts

  • to resume progress healing injuries labelled, "chronic" or "permanent and stationary"

  • eliminate trigger points and the need for pain meds, muscle relaxants, TENS, stretching, or massage therapy

  • to improve balance, mobility and physical comfort (even in the aged)

  • to restore energy drained away by pain

  • to get back to your life, again, free of concern about hurting yourself, again

The Proof of The Pudding

Somatics, Eugene 8-5-07 460.jpg

"Clinical somatic education is a "high-touch/low-tech", advance in pain relief. Sessions are comfortable to do and rapidly restore comfort.

They involve assisted relearning of muscular control that frees you from the grip of pain. Muscles relax, comfort returns -- usually to a better-than-pre-injury condition. Sessions produce reliable good results; I offer a lifetime money-back guarantee."

Injuries and Pain Posture and Movement

Injuries, shocks, and pain trigger changes to postural reflexes that rob us of muscular control and cause pain and stiffness to linger long after the injury has healed; we tighten up; we lose the ability to relax tight muscles and to move freely in certain ways.

People commonly confuse the resulting pain with the pain of the original injury, but it's from the aftermath of injury: changes of muscular activity (habituated cringe response).

Physical Therapist_edited.jpg

Without retraining, people commonly stay that way indefinitely.

You know: "He was never the same, after that." Many people have had that experience; just watch how people move in public places and notice how many people stand and move in ungainly ways often mistaken for the effects of ageing.

What's been lacking in most therapeutic approaches is a way to handle the habituated cringe response and the muscle tension and pain they cause. Their best offering is stretching.

A Promise

Rapid, reliable, and enduring pain relief with full recovery of function is the promise made good, here.

Many people who have unsuccessfully undergone physical therapy, chiropractic, acupuncture, massage therapy and various forms of bodywork, osteopathy, neurosurgery, et al., have found clinical somatic education to be a successful last resort with relief of pain and recovery of free movement for more than nine out of ten people.

Even if you've had a problem for a long time, time is not a factor. You can have your life back -- in recreation and athletics, at work, at home and in the bedroom -- in short, in any situation where you need free and easy movement to exercise, lift and carry a heavy box, get into a car, sleep comfortably, or move comfortably from position to position.

The Result

The key to recovery is your recapturing control of muscles tightened by reflexes triggered by injury or nervous tension. The tension eases, pain fades, and you feel immediate changes in your ease of movement. You feel different -- and more like yourself -- or (more often) end up better than you were, before injury. You gain your independence from therapy, therapists -- and from the clinical somatic educator you've worked with!

"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it, nor in traditions because they are old and have been handed down from generation to generation and in many locations, nor in rumor because it has been spoken by many, nor in writings by sages because sages wrote them, nor in ones own fancies, thinking that it is such an extraordinary thought, it must have been inspired by God or a higher power, nor in inferences drawn from some haphazard assumption made by us, nor in what seems to be of necessity by analogy, nor in anything merely because it is based on the authority of our teachers, masters, and elders.

However, after thorough investigation, observation, analysis and reflection, when you find that anything agrees with reason and your experience, and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, and of the world at large; accept only that as true, and shape your life in accordance with it; and live up to it."
